Kaizer Chiefs Beat SuperSport United in Diski Shield Action
Kaizer Chiefs Reserves are on their way to the DStv Diski Shield semi-finals after beating SuperSport United Reserves 4-2 on Sunday, 10 July.
The Soweto Giants took on Matsatsantsa at Wits University Soccer Stadium in Johannesburg, and it was clear that the pressure to advance to the final four of the competition was on.
SuperSport’s Tendamudzimu Matodzi opened the scoreboard in the sixth minute, only for Chiefs’ Aden McCarthy to level the score about five minutes later. Come the 24th and 34th minutes, team-mate Wandile Duba added two additional goals with a close-range shot and a strike, respectively.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, SuperSport’s Matodzi struck again, his second goal stirring up hopes of a comeback. Alas for Matsatsantsa, Puso Dithejane – who came on as a sub for Chiefs – sealed the victory with the fourth and final goal of the day.
Kaizer Chiefs are now set to face Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves in semi-final action this Saturday, 16 July; on that same day, Chippa United Reserves will take on DStv Diski Shield champions, Stellenbosch FC Reserves.
